Airbag Outside Car, Here's How It Works

Source: www.inhabitat.com

In 2013, one of April Fool's joke that could fool some automotive media, is the presence of an external air bag technology for protecting all parts of the car. The complete system like it was a lie, but actually Volvo own external air bag technology since 2012.

Debuted performed on V40 models, the air bag for protecting a pedestrian. Located in front of the windshield so that pedestrians do not hit hard material when hit by a car.

The system works with sensors in the bumper that detect the legs. After the collision, the hood will be raised slightly and the air bag popped out to cover the wiper, mostly glass and pillar A.

Current, the new system is also known to be used in new designs of Subaru Impreza sedan that already debut at New York Auto Show. How it works is similar to Volvo, but the difference between the hood of Impreza is not lifted after the collision occurred.

In the latest Impreza, the pedestrian protectors add a row of other security features that are included eyesight Pre-Collision Braking Control, Adaptive Cruise Control, High Beam Assist and Lane Keep Assist functions.

The latest Impreza is designed using the base of the Subaru Global Platform. The engine remains the same, 2.0L boxer. Even so, Subaru says it has developed to turn up 80 percent from the previous model. The new engine power 4 tk larger than the previous model, to 152 tk.
